This is a Thai Defector Prison

Posted by kyochan

For those of you who complain about the conditions Mexican migrants face when crossing the border, it could be worse

Several hundred defectors who have been confined in a Thai prison have reportedly been going through hardship in a deteriorating prison facility.

They have succeeded in the long march of 10,000km through China and Laos via way of the Mekong River in order to find their path of survival, but what awaits them is an odor-filled prison.

A related person of the private organizations that are supporting the imprisoned defectors revealed, “Currently, in a Thai immigration prison, 250 women and 100 men are imprisoned. Inside the prison is “so crowded that there are people who go to the bathroom by climbing over others and those who even use the toilet as a pillow.”

This person relayed, “In particular, in the steaming heat of over 30~40 degree Celsius, in the prison where 250 women are imprisoned, the stench of sweat and bad odor permeates the air and women cannot even use the toilet because of the lack of sanitary napkins or tampons.”

Through this course, the alias for which is the Thai Route, thousands of defectors have entered South Korea after 1990s. The threat of being sent back to North Korea disappears after arriving in Thailand, because it is as if one has arrived at the doorstep of Korea, but the final ticket to Korea is difficult to acquire.

It has been known that these people, unadjusted to the tropical climate, are exposed to every kind of sicknesses. A related person of a private organization relayed, “Support from the Korean government has ceased for several years, so a few private organizations are supplying daily necessities.”

Think of the plight of a North Korean refugees as a real life journey from the The Divine Comedy. Thailand is Purgatory.
